Matt Szczur was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the San Diego Padres on May 8, 2017. The Cubs in exchange received Justin Hancock.
Szczur is an outfielder who hit 4 for 19, .211/.273/.263 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 15 games with the Cubs in 2017. Over four MLB seasons with the Cubs he hit .243/.295/.374 with 9 HR, 42 RBI, 45 R, 4 SB in 208 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round in 2010. Szczur will be 28 on July 20.
RHP Hancock was 0-2, 6.23 ERA, 11 K, 1.85 WHIP, .327 BAA in 13.0 IP over 10 games at Double A San Antonio in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the ninth round in 2011. Hancock turned 26 on October 28.
