Anthony Rendon of the Washington Nationals had a historically stellar day at the plate in a 23-5 victory over the Mets on April 30, 2017. He went 6 for 6 with 1 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, and 5 R while hitting sixth and playing third base. The offensive spark raised his average from .226 to .278 and it was the first time he hit the ball out of the park this season.
He started with a single in the first inning which knocked in Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman. His first homer was a solo shot in the third. That was followed by his second home run in the fourth with Harper and Daniel Murphy on base. Only one inning later he had a bases loaded double on which Trea Turner, Harper and Murphy scored. He singled in the seventh advancing Murphy to third. The eighth saw his final at bat in which he launched another solo shot.
This season he is hitting 25 for 90, .278/.356/.411 with 3 HR, 15 RBI, 10 R, 0 SB in 23 games. Over five MLB seasons with the Nationals he has hit .274/.345/.432 with 56 HR, 243 RBI, 295 R, 31 SB in 510 games. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the sixth pick of the first round in 2011. Rendon will be 27 on June 6th.
The only other MLB player on record with a 6 hit, 3 HR, 10 RBI game was Walker Cooper of the Cincinnati Reds on July 6, 1949. In a 23-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs he was 6 for 7 with 3 HR, 10 RBI and 5 R while batting fourth and playing catcher. Over 18 MLB seasons with the St Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Reds, Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs he hit .285/.332/.464 with 173 HR, 812 RBI, 573 R, 18 SB in 1473 games.
