Here is the seventh Two Major One Minor segment of 2013. This is my third year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Oswaldo Arcia, Marcell Ozuna and Engel Beltre.
Arcia is a corner outfielder with the Minnesota Twins who has been impressing since his MLB debut in April. He started the season at Triple A Rochester where he hit .394/.474/.727 with 3 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 2 SB in 10 games. In 2012 while with Class A Advanced Fort Myers and Double A New Britain he hit a combined .320/.388/.539 with 17 HR, 98 RBI, 76 R, 4 SB in 124 games. At every level he showed the ability to hit for average with some double digit pop. With the Twins he has hit .300/.333/.500 with 3 HR, 13 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 22 games. It is impressive for a young player to get their shot and perform. Arcia turned 22 on May 9th. He originally signed with the Twins as an amateur free agent in 2007 out of Venezuela.
Ozuna is an outfielder with the Miami Marlins who has shown the ability to play all three positions in the minors. While any move made my the Marlins front office should be viewed with a critical eye bringing up Ozuna appears to be working out. He started the season at Class A Advanced Jupiter and Double A Jacksonville while hitting a combined .316/.355/.684 with 5 HR, 16 RBI, 7 R, 2 SB in 14 games. He hit 22, 23 and 24 home runs in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively advancing from A to Class A Advanced. With the Marlins he has hit .300/.340/.460 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 1 SB in 13 games. He originally signed with the Marlins as an amateur free agent in 2008 out of the Dominican Republic. Ozuna turned 22 on November 12.
Beltre is an outfielder with Triple A Round Rock of the Texas Rangers. He primarily plays in center but has also roamed in both corners. The Rangers have him on their 40 man roster which indicate he is in their future plans. This season he is hitting .278/.324/.346 with 0 HR, 7 RBI, 22 R, 10 SB in 38 games. Last season at Double A Frisco he hit .261/.307/.420 with 13 HR, 55 RBI, 80 R, 36 SB in 133 games. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2006 and went to the Rangers in a trade in 2007. Beltre turned 23 on November 1st.
