College Spotlight 051413

Here is my week 13 installment of College Spotlight for 2013. This week I am looking at Andrew Garner of Tulane and Daniel Gossett of Clemson.

Junior Outfielder Andrew Garner is out of Brazoswood High School in Lake Jackson, TX. On Saturday had one of those dream days at the plate going 5 for 5 while hitting for the cycle in a 15-9 victory over Central Florida. He finished the game 5 for 5 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBI, two runs and a walk while playing right field. He walked in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth, tripled in the seventh and hit a 3 run home run in the ninth. For the season he is hitting .297/.340/.422 with 2 HR, 29 RBI, 25 R, 4 SB in 49 games. Last season as a sophomore he hit .289/.315/.438 with 2 HR, 21 RBI, 13 R, 1 SB in 38 games.

Sophomore RHP Daniel Gossett is out of James F Byrnes High School in Lyman, SC. He is coming off a dominating 12 strikeout performance in a 7-1 win over Georgia Southern on Friday. His line for the game was 7.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 12 K. For the season he is 8-3, 2.36 ERA, 80 K, 1.15 WHIP in 80.0 IP over 13 games. Last season as a freshman he was 6-3, 4.32 ERA, 87 K, 1.31 WHIP in 77.0 IP over 19 games. The Tigers have one more week of the regular season and are in good shape to make the play offs as they are currently 14th.
