He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 21st round in 2011, was selected by the Marlins in the 2014 Rule 5 Draft and claimed off waivers by the Braves in 2015. McKirahan turned 27 on February 8th.

RHP Portuondo split 2016 between Class A Advanced Carolina and Gwinnett.
