Michael Gonzalez was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Texas Rangers on August 31, 2011. In exchange the Orioles received a player to be named later which was Pedro Strop.
Gonzalez is a LHP in his ninth season and had played for the Orioles, Braves and Pirates. Before the trade he was 2-2 with a 4.27 ERA, 46 strikeouts, 1.38 WHIP and one save in 46.1 innings over 49 games. For his career he is 17-21 with a 2.94 ERA, 412 strikeouts, 1.24 WHIP and 56 saves in 358.2 innings over 387 games. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the 30th round in 1997.
Strop is a RHP who was in his third season with the Rangers. Before the trade he was 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA, nine strikeouts, and 1.49 WHIP in 9.2 innings over 11 games. For his career he is 2-1 with a 5.22 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 1.59 WHIP in 39.2 innings over 45 games. He originally signed with the Rockies as an amateur free agent in 2002 out of the Dominican Republic.
