Ghost of 62 052913
The reference in the title is the 1962 Mets who are regarded as the worst of the Modern Era for all teams after 1900. The team finished 40-120 and 60.5 games back. For the season the team hit .240/.318/.361 and scored 617 runs which was 3.8 per game. The team ERA was 5.04 and they gave up 948 runs or 5.9 per game.
Each week I will check in on the MLB teams with the worst win-loss records and how they measure up to 1962. This week those teams are the Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals.

Two Major One Minor 052813
Here is the ninth Two Major One Minor segment of 2013. This is my third year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Carlos Gomez, Dexter Fowler and George Springer.
Gomez is one of the bad boys of baseball who is finally living up to his talent. The outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers had his break out last year but is showing it was no fluke. In 2012 he hit .260/.305/.463 with 19 HR, 51 RBI, 72 R, 37 SB in 137 games. He was on the verge of a 20/20 season and is capable of much more. This season he is hitting .331/.376/.611 with 10 HR, 25 RBI, 28 R, 9 SB in 48 games. I have him on my 50/50 watch list as one of those who could be the first to reach that milestone. He originally signed with the Mets as an amateur free agent in 2002 out of the Dominican Republic. Gomez turned 27 on December 4th.
Fowler started the season with a hot bat for the first month but cooled off since. The outfielder for the Colorado Rockies had 8 home runs in April as he hit .305/.411/.621. He has yet to hit one out in May as he has hit .250/.337/.310 for the month. For the season that puts him at .276/.379/.470 with 8 HR, 18 RBI, 33 R, 8 SB in 48 games. The early performance did seem against type as last season was his best power output with 13 dingers. Yet Colorado is one place where hitting at home could aid his confidence to regain his long ball form. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 14th round in 2004. Fowler turned 27 on March 22.
Springer is an outfielder with Double A Corpus Christi with the Houston Astros with an impressive combination of power and speed. This season he is already on the verge of 20/20 while hitting .301/.418/.618 with 15 HR, 40 RBI, 40 R, 15 SB in 47 games. He should improve on his numbers from 2012 when he hit .302/.383/.526 with 24 HR, 87 RBI, 109 R, 32 SB combined over 128 games between Class A Advanced Lancaster and Corpus Christi. Springer gave glimpses of that with 12 home runs and 31 steals while at Connecticut in 2011 which prompted the Astros to draft him with the 11th pick of the first round. Springer will be 24 on September 19.
