Suk-min Yoon Headed to MLB

South Korean RHP Suk-min Yoon has drawn interest from MLB teams including the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins and likely will sign for the 2014 season. He returned to a reliever role in 2013 due to a shoulder injury and was 3-6, 4.00 ERA, 76 K, 1.36 WHIP, 7 SV in 87.67 IP over 30 games with the Kia Tigers. He is only two seasons removed from being the MVP of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) in 2011 when he captured the pitching Triple Crown leading the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts. In 2011 he was 17-5, 2.45 ERA, 178 K, 1.05 WHIP, 1 SV in 172.1 IP over 27 games. He broke into the KBO as a reliever and in 2006 as the Tigers closer was 5-6, 2.28 ERA, 75 K, 1.14 WHIP in 94.2 IP over 63 games. He made the transition to starter the following season. He also pitched for the South Korea team that won gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. Yoon will be 28 on July 24.

Lance Berkman retires

Lance Berkman announced his retirement from playing baseball in January 2014. The OF\1B had 15 seasons MLB experience playing with the Astros (1999-2010), Yankees (2010), Cardinals (2011-2012) and Rangers (2013). In 2013 he hit .242/.340/.359 with 6 HR, 34 RBI, 27 R, 0 SB in 73 games with the Rangers. For his MLB career he hit .293/.406/.537 with 366 HR, 1234 RBI, 1146 R, 86 SB in 1879 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros with the 16th pick of the first round in 1997. Berkman was 37 at the time of his retirement.

Carlos Peguero traded to Royals

Carlos Peguero was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Kansas City Royals on January 29, 2014 in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. The outfielder has three seasons of limited MLB experience with the Mariners. He split 2013 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .260/.321/.460 with 19 HR, 83 RBI, 60 R, 11 SB in 118 games at Tacoma and hit .333/.429/.833 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 2 games with the Mariners. For his MLB career he has hit .195/.242/.380 with 9 HR, 27 RBI, 17 R, 1 SB in 65 games. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2005 as an amateur free agent out of Dominican Republic. Peguero will be 27 on February 22.

Texas Rangers 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Luke Jackson was the Texas Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The RHP split 2013 between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach and Double A Frisco. He was 9-4, 2.41 ERA, 104 K, 1.25 WHIP in 101.0 IP over 19 games at Myrtle Beach and was 2-0, 0.67 ERA, 30 K, 0.93 WHIP in 27.0 IP over 6 games at Frisco. He was originally drafted by the Rangers with the 45th pick of the first round in 2010. Jackson will be 23 on August 24.

Texas Rangers 2013 Minor League Player of the Year

Rougned Odor was the Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Year in 2013. The second baseman split 2013 between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach and Double A Frisco. He hit .305/.369/.454 with 5 HR, 59 RBI, 65 R, 27 SB in 100 games at Myrtle Beach and hit .306/.354/.530 with 6 HR, 19 RBI, 20 R, 5 SB in 30 games at Frisco. He originally signed with the Rangers in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Odor will be 20 on February 3rd.

St Louis Cardinals 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Zach Petrick was the St Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The RHP split 2013 between Class A Peoria, Class A Advanced Palm Beach and Double A Springfield. He was 1-0, 0.83 ERA, 46 K, 0.98 WHIP, 7 SV in 32.2 IP over 16 games at Peoria, was 3-0, 0.27 ERA, 32 K, 0.75 WHIP, 1 SV in 33.1 IP over 9 games at Palm Beach and was 3-3, 3.99 ERA, 44 K, 1.25 WHIP in 47.1 IP over 9 games at Springfield. Kolten Wong was the St Louis Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year in 2013. The second baseman split 2013 between at Triple A Memphis and the Cardinals. Los Angeles Angels 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Brandon Hynick was the Los Angeles Angels Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The RHP pitched in 2013 at Double A Arkansas. He was 12-5, 2.80 ERA, 98 K, 1.05 WHIP in 141.2 IP over 24 games. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the eighth round in 2006. Hynick will be 29 on March 7th.

Los Angeles Angels 2013 Minor League Player of the Year

Zach Borenstein was the Los Angeles Angels Minor League Player of the Year in 2013. The outfielder played in 2013 at Class A Advanced Inland Empire of the Los Angeles Angels and hit .337/.403/.631 with 28 HR, 95 RBI, 76 R, 5 SB in 112 games. He was originally drafted by the Angles in the 23rd round in 2011. Borenstein turned 23 on July 23.

Houston Astros 2013 Minor League Pitchers of the Year

Lance McCullers and Luis Cruz were the Houston Astros Minor League Pitchers of the Year in 2013.

RHP McCullers pitched in 2013 at Class A Quad Cities. He was 6-5, 3.18 ERA, 117 K, 1.35 WHIP in 104.2 IP over 25 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros with the 41st pick of the first round in 2012. McCullers turned 20 on October 2nd.

LHP Cruz split 2013 between Class A Advanced Lancaster and Double A Corpus Christi. He was 8-6, 5.16 ERA, 129 K, 1.33 WHIP in 113.1 IP over 27 games at Lancaster and was 2-0, 0.53 ERA, 21 K, 0.53 WHIP in 17.0 IP over 4 games at Corpus Christi. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the ninth round in 2008. Cruz will be 24 on September 10.

Houston Astros 2013 Minor League Player of the Year

George Springer was the Houston Astros Minor League Player of the Year in 2013. The outfielder split 2013 between Double A Corpus Christi and Triple A Oklahoma City of the Houston Astros. He hit .297/.399/.579 with 19 HR, 55 RBI, 56 R, 23 SB in 73 games at Corpus Christi and hit .311/.425/.626 with 18 HR, 53 RBI, 50 R, 22 SB in 62 games at Oklahoma City. Colorado Rockies 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Eddie Butler was the Colorado Rockies Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The RHP split 2013 between Class A Asheville, Class A Advanced Modesto and Double A Tulsa.
