Yamaico Navarro traded to Orioles

Yamaico Navarro was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Baltimore Orioles on November 30, 2012. In exchange the Pirates received Jhondaniel Medina.

Navarro is a SS/3B/OF with three seasons of MLB experience playing with the Pirates, Royals and Red Sox. He split 2012 between Triple A Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. He hit .279/.366/.491 with 9 HR, 35 RBI, 41 R, 9 SB in 66 games at Indianapolis and hit .160/.232/.220 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 29 games at Pittsburgh. For his MLB career he has hit .191/.244/.250 with 2 HR, 18 RBI, 16 R, 0 SB in 71 games. He was originally signed by the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of the Dominican Republic. Navarro turned 25 on October 31.

RHP Medina pitched 2012 for the Orioles Gulf Coast Rookie team and the Class A team Aberdeen. He was 1-3 with a 3.72 ERA, 47 K, 1.09 WHIP, 2 SV in 46.0 IP over 10 games with GLC Orioles and was 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA, 3 K, 1.50 WHIP in 4.0 IP in one game at Aberdeen. He originally signed with the Orioles as an amateur free agent in 2009 out of Venezuela. Medina will be 20 on February 8th.

Chris Resop traded to Athletics

Chris Resop was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Oakland Athletics on November 30, 2012. In exchange the Pirated received Zach Thornton.

RHP Resop has seven season of MLB experience pitching with the Pirates, Braves, Angels and Marlins. In 2012 he was 1-4 with a 3.91 ERA, 46 K, 1.42 WHIP, 1 SV in 73.2 IP over 61 games at Pittsburgh. For his MLB career he is 9-11 with a 4.51 ERA, 191 K, 1.51 WHIP, 2 SV in 225.1 IP over 217 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the fourth round in 2001. Resop turned 30 on November 4th. 

RHP Thornton pitched in 2012 for the Athletics Class A Advanced team Stockton. He was 4-0 with a 4.53 ERA, 70 K, 1.42 WHIP, 16 SV in 53.2 IP over 48 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 23rd round in 2010. Thornton turned 24 on May 19.

Tommy Hanson traded to Angels

Tommy Hanson was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Los Angeles Angels on November 30, 2012. In exchange the Braves received Jordan Walden.

RHP Hanson has four seasons MLB experience pitching all with the Braves. In 2012 he was 13-10 with a 4.48 ERA, 161 K, 1.45 WHIP in 174.2 IP over 31 games. For his MLB career he is 45-32 with a 3.61 ERA, 592 K, 1.25 WHIP in 635.0 IP over 108 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the 22nd round in 2005. Hanson turned 26 on August 28.

RHP Walden has three seasons of MLB experience pitching all with the Angels. in 2012 he was 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA, 48 K, 1.36 WHIP, 1 SV in 39.0 IP over 45 games. For his MLB career he is 8-8 with a 3.06 ERA, 138 K, 1.29 WHIP, 34 SV in 114.2 IP over 123 games. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the 12th round in 2006. Walden turned 25 on November 16.

David Wright contract extension

David Wright of the New York Mets agreed to a contract extension of seven years for $122 million. That is added to his 2013 for which he is owed $16 million. In 2012 the third baseman hit .306/.391/.492 with 21 HR, 93 RBI, 91 R, 15 SB in 156 games. For his nine year MLB career with the Mets he has hit .301/.381/.506 with 204 HR, 818 RBI, 790 R, 166 SB in 1262 games. He was originally drafted by the Mets with the 38th pick of the first round in 2001. Wright will be 30 on December 20.

Denard Span traded to Nationals

Denard Span was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Washington Nationals on November 29, 2012. In exchange the Twins received Alex Meyer.

Span is an outfielder with five seasons MLB experience all with the Twins. In 2012 he hit .283/.342/.395 with 4 HR, 41 RBI, 71 R, 17 SB in 128 games. For his MLB career he has hit .284/.357/.389 with 23 HR, 230 RBI, 360 R, 90 SB in 589 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins with the 20th pick of the first round in 2002. Span will be 29 on February 27.

RHP Meyer pitched with the Nationals Class A team Hagerstown and Class A Advanced team Potomac in 2012. He was 7-4 with a 3.10 ERA, 107 K, 1.13 WHIP in 90.0 IP over 18 games at Hagerstown and was 3-2 with a 2.31 ERA, 32 K, 1.03 WHIP in 39.0 IP over 7 games at Potomac. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the 23rd pick of the first round in 2011. Meyer will be 23 on January 3rd.

Blake Tekotte traded to White Sox

Blake Tekotte was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Chicago White Sox on November 7, 2012. In exchange the Padres received Brandon Kloess.

Tekotte is an outfielder with two seasons of MLB experience after brief stints with the Padres. He split 2012 between Triple A Tucson and San Diego. He hit .243/.284/.402 with 9 HR, 26 RBI, 38 R, 9 SB in 89 games with Tucson and hit .133/.133/.133 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 1 SB in 11 games with San Diego. RHP Kloess pitched in 2012 for the White Sox Double A team Birmingham and Triple A team Charlotte. He was 3-3 with a 3.35 ERA, 44 K, 1.16 WHIP, 3 SV in 45.2 IP over 24 games at Birmingham and was 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA, 26 K, 1.39 WHIP, 1 SV in 28.0 IP over 13 games at Charlotte. Marcelo Carreno traded to Cubs

Marcelo Carreno was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the Chicago Cubs on October 16, 2012 along with cash to complete the earlier Jeff Baker trade in August. The RHP pitched in 2012 for the Tigers Class A team is West Michigan. He was 9-8 with a 3.23 ERA, 119 K, 1.13 WHIP in 139.1 IP over 27 games at West Michigan. He was originally signed by the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 2007 out of Venezuela. Carreno turned 21 on June 26.

Cory Burns was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Texas Rangers on November 28, 2012 for a player to be named later or cash. The RHP split 2012 between Triple A Tucson and San Diego. Vin Mazzaro was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Pittsburgh Pirates on November 28, 2012 along with Clint Robinson. In exchange the Royals received Luis Santos and Luis Rico.

RHP Mazzaro has four seasons of MLB experience pitching with the Royals and Athletics. He split 2012 between Triple A Omaha and Kansas City. He was 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA, 62 K, 1.33 WHIP, 5 SV in 67.0 IP over 22 games wit Omaha and was 4-3 with a 5.73 ERA, 26 K, 1.68 WHIP in 44.0 IP over 18 games with Kansas City. For his MLB career he is 15-21 with a 5.22 ERA, 174 K, 1.62 WHIP in 286.0 IP over 66 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the third round in 2005.

Robinson is a first baseman who played for Triple A Omaha in 2012 and had a brief stint in Kansas City to make his MLB debut. He hit .292/.393/.452 with 13 HR, 67 RBI, 70 R, 1 SB in 131 games with Omaha and was hitless in four pinch hit at bats over four games with Kansas City. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the 25th round in 2007. Robinson will be 28 on February 16.

RHP Santos spent 2012 splitting time between the Pirates two teams in the Dominican Summer league. Combined he was 6-3 with a 2.44 ERA, 74 K, 0.99 WHIP in 62.2 IP over 14 games. He was originally signed by the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2011 out of the Dominican Republic. Santos will be 22 on February 11.

LHP Rico also pitched for a Pirates team in the Dominican Summer League in 2012. He was 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA, 16 K, 2.00 WHIP in 23.0 IP over 11 games. He originally signed with the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2011 out of Venezuela. Rico will be 19 on November 29.

Brandon Hicks traded to Mets

Brandon Hicks was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the New York Mets on November 26, 2012 in exchange for cash. The SS\3B has three seasons of limited MLB experience all with the Athletics. He split 2012 between Triple A Sacramento and Oakland. He hit .244/.350/.506 with 18 HR, 61 RBI, 61 R, 5 SB in 90 games at Sacramento and hit .172/.243/.391 with 3 HR, 7 RBI, 8 R, 1 SB in 22 games at Oakland. For his MLB career he has hit .133/.204/.289 with 3 HR, 8 RBI, 16 R, 1 SB in 55 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the third round in 2007. Hicks turned 27 on September 14.

Evan Longoria contract extension

Evan Longoria signed a contract extension with the Tampa Bay Rays of six years for $100 million. That adds six years to his current contract which stays unchanged through 2016 so he remains under contract with the Rays until 2022. Plus the Rays has an option for 2023. The third baseman has five seasons of MLB experience all with the Rays. In 2012 he hit .289/.369/.527 with 17 HR, 55 RBI, 39 R, 2 SB in 74 games as he missed much of the season with a hamstring injury. For his MLB career he has hit .276/.361/.516 with 130 HR, 456 RBI, 380 R, 36 SB in 637 games. He was originally drafted by the Rays with the third pick of the first round in 2006. Longoria turned 27 on October 7th.
